Idaho Transportation Department

KEI supported the development of an agency Asset Management System.

Asset Management System:

West Coast DOT

itdThe Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) had the aggressive goal of implementing a new transportation Asset Management System in a 12-month implementation timeline. The Pavement Management portion was implemented concurrent with a new Maintenance Management System and KEI, as the pavement management technical consultant, was tasked with completing the engineering configuration of the Pavement Management System. KEI worked closely with the ITD pavement management staff to complete a system review and to define the optimal set-up of pavement types, treatments, roadway classifications, condition indices, budget groups, decision trees, performance models and improvement variables necessary to allow the agency to move beyond a worst-first methodology and incorporate pavement preservation methodology into their business processes.

Challenges:

Project challenges included:itd2

  • Schedule: The aggressive schedule allowed for only 3 months to complete the configuration of the AgileAssets pavement management software solution.
  • Speed: Quick concurrence on key decisions was critical to maintaining the schedule. KEI initiated an Expert Panel approach which proved successful in meeting the schedule and developing a properly configured system.
  • System Configurability: The configurability of the software solution allowed for complex decision trees and improvement variables and for refinement of performance models necessary to meet the client’s needs.
  • Best Practices: KEI also reviewed current pavement condition assessment practices and provided recommendations to create a more objective and repeatable evaluation process.
